The Winter Berry Look.

For those of you who who love the grungy style you'll love this fashion look book that i have put together for you!

For the past couple of years, a dark berry has been the iconic colour of this time of year. And why not? Winter time is not all about white snow and pretty glittery things, but it also brings out the grunge and vampy side of fashion.

My inspiration for this look stemmed from the Autumn/Winter 2014-15 fashion week where Nina Ricci featured velvet in her new collection.
Velvet has really taken off this season, especially on the high street and i wanted to incorporate it into a look for winter, as its not a fabric that is so widely worn all year round. The material is perfect for a vampy/grunge look and really works well with the dark berry colour - another fashion trend seen on the catwalk for A/W.

The dress I am wearing is a simple black velvet swing dress - a perfect for day to night that can be styled so effortlessly to create whatever look you want.

A simple black leather jacket, ankle boots with a pair of black lace trim ankle socks can be added to give a girly flair. Wear with a simple shoulder bag and tah-dah - a simple throw together look that is easy to wear during the day time.

To add more of a casual grunge look, tie a patchwork button-down shirt round the waist or wear over the dress.

Patchwork prints were also seen on the A/W 14-15 catwalk, shown by the likes of Valentino and Bottega Veneta. Partner the button-down shirt with a pair of leather-look leggings or trousers and you have another grungy winter berry look!

When coming up with the makeup look, i had in mind certain celebrities that use this look often who take the classic red lip and give it their own little twist. .
Known for her dark lip and wild mane Lorde was the perfect example of someone who rocks the grunged up Winter Berry look. Quite often seen wearing dark colours, Lorde shows us how a dark red/berry lipstick can suit even the palest of skin tones.

When wearing a darker red lip, keep the rest of your makeup quite minimal. See my previous post on The Currant Trend, where i review a number of berry-toned lipsticks and give tips on how to wear this popular look.

Here i am wearing Sleeks lip liner in Rouge with their gorgeous lipstick Vamp. Be generous with bronzer, as wearing a dark lip can sometimes appear to wash out the skin. We are going for vampy, not vampire!
Lorde's style is almost effortless and shaggy which reminded me a lot of 90's Fashion.

Rings H&M | Nails Nars CHINATOWN
A mismatch of rings emphasise the effortlessness of this grungy look.

Why not bring out your 90's inner child and add a velvet scrunchy to the mix - major throw back here!

So we have grungy, we have vampy... what about glamour? For me the most obvious person when i think of a glamorous winter berry is Rihanna. I mean she basically started the whole dark lip bad girl grunge thing, right? Whats different from the other inspirations however is she does it with such elegance, but still quite provocative!

Try teaming a black velvet crop top with a detailed midi-skirt.
The key to creating the glamour here is in the jewelry. Big statement pieces will help bring your look from casual everyday grunge to glamorous grunge. Keeping the hair nice and messy will still keep that effortless style, and also adds some sexiness to the look!
