Hints and Tips for Valentines Day

Hey girlies!

There's only one week to go until Valentine’s Day!
I know that V-day is something that is more for us girls, but why not surprise the one you love and get him something cute and thoughtful!
You don’t even have to buy anything if money is tight; a thoughtful handmade present is perfect!
Here are a few hints and tips to getting your other half the perfect present for Valentine’s Day!

CHOCOLATE.

You can’t go wrong here. Every guy loves a bit of chocolate, even if he says he doesn’t – he’s lying. I don’t think there is anyone in the world who wouldn’t love chocolate as a gift. It may seem a bit commercial to give chocolate for Valentine’s Day, but I say why not! It just shows that it’s not just the girls who can be showered with sweet things at this time of year. Plus he can save face with his friends by eating it quick to destroy the evidence! Out of the typical roses and chocolates bit, chocolates are definitely the best bet, and the market for heart shaped candy is blooming this year.

Hotel Chocolat is my go-to place for good quality chocolate. They have so many things on offer for Valentine’s Day, and also have some pretty cool flavours that can man-up the idea a little. I recently purchased some heart shaped chocolate filled with caramel infused with balsamic vinegar. Sounds weird right? But they tasted really good! The tang of the vinegar gives the caramel a salty flavour which really gets your taste buds going, while the smooth milk chocolate of the shell soothes the flavour and takes out a little of the kick the vinegar gives. A strange purchase for me as I’m partial to plain old milk chocolate, but I’m glad I tried them! Love Me Do Balsamic Caramels - £3.85.

Every time I visit Hotel Chocolat I never leave without my caramel sweethearts. These are sold all year round and are so yummy! They are thin heart shaped milk chocolate snaps with crunchy bits of caramel in them. So simple, but so delicious. I know my boyfriend loves these so this is definitely on the list! Caramel Sweethearts - £7.50.

FRAGRANCE

One thing that I absolutely adore is a guy that wears amazing cologne. Every time my boyfriend wears this spray I literally go weak at the knees. Burberry Brit Rhythm is the new eau de toilette for men and is absolutely gorgeous. It’s very similar to Diesel Only the Brave, my other favourite for men, which is why I feel head over heels in love with this one. With base notes of Tonka bean, Cedar wood and incense, a heart of leather and patchouli topped off with basil juniper and cardamom; it is the perfect formula of spice meets woody. If you like your guys to smell absolutely irresistible then I definitely recommend this as a gift for Valentine’s Day! Burberry Brit Rhythm for Men - £33.50 for 30mls The Perfume Shop.

SKIN CARE

A guy that can look after himself is definitely an attractive quality. You may be surprised to know that LUSH do a wonderful range aimed mainly at men. It’s called the “Dirty” range and they do things like shaving creams, tooth pastes, moisturisers and shampoos/shower gels. My boyfriend has sensitive skin and therefore shaving often can leave his skin feeling really irritated and sore. Lush do a few shaving creams designed to reduce irritation and calm the skin while shaving. My boyfriend loves this stuff and I can always see an improvement in skin when he uses it consistently. The formula contains oat milk which soothes the skin from irritation and Shea butter which offers some moisture that can be taken away from shaving often. It also has a light fragrance when used in conjunction with the other products in the Dirty range! This also is a good product to use on the legs ladies, so if not for your man then it’s perfect for you to get healthy and soft skin on your legs after shaving! Dirty Shaving cream - £5.50 for 100g.

The Mask of Magnaminty is another lovely product that would make a good gift! It’s a treatment mask that can be used virtually anywhere on the body. It is designed to treat the skin by zapping any spots or blemishes (marigold oil) and brightening the skin, making it look more radiant. This product smells very minty from the peppermint oil (used to stimulate blood flow the skin encouraging brightness), which suggests manliness, but is actually designed to be unisex (as with most lush products). This is a good memory making present for both of you to use on a gloomy Sunday with a cup of tea, duvet and good telly, plus loads of fun selfies! Mask of Magnaminty - £5.25 for 125g.

Need some sentimental homemade ideas?

Why not make a scrap book of all the memories you’ve had together in your relationship so far? Take an old scrap book and find a wide selection of coloured paper, wrapping paper, old magazines etc.
Pick out your favourite pictures you have of each other or places you’ve been together and take them to somewhere like boots or a large Tesco to be printed.

You can then mount these on coloured card.
Then get the scraps of patterned paper you’ve found (or you can get some from somewhere like hobby craft or whsmith) and create a funky background on each page of the scrapbook you want to use. Then stick the mounted pictures onto the background!
See if you can find some cool illustrations or funny headlines from magazines that may fit the pictures you have stuck in your book.
Got any cinema or travel tickets or brochures from places you’ve been together? Stick these in too.
These are a wonderful memory jogger and can result in hours of fun reliving these moments!
This really gives you the chance to be creative with what you can do!

My mother has always said: the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
Why not bake some cupcakes or a delicious meal the two of you can enjoy! You can even get him involved in the cooking and make a romantic mess together in the kitchen. A good way to have a laugh and do something special together!

Whatever you do this valentine’s day, whether you spend it with someone you love or with your friends, I hope you all have a wonderful day! It really isn’t just about the presents you give each other so don’t take this present giving so seriously, but about appreciating the relationship you have with someone. If giving gifts is the way you want to show it by all means go ahead! There’s nothing wrong with spoiling (or being spoilt) on Valentine’s Day, just remember the reason behind the gift!

Thanks for reading guys! I hope you enjoyed it!
